Do you want to contribute to the quality and development of the steel of the future? We are now looking for a driven laboratory engineer for Research Testing in Oxelösund!

Becoming part of the SSAB family means embarking on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future of the planet and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for our societal development and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges that connect our cities, and in tomorrow's cars. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and have committed to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contributing to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

As a laboratory engineer in research testing, you will perform metallographic examinations within the section and support the operation of mechanical testing. You will also contribute to improvement work within the department. The work involves both independent tasks and close collaboration with laboratory technicians, engineers, and testing personnel.

Through strong collaboration within the entire testing department, you contribute to the company's success, especially in the exciting time we face with the climate transition in the steel industry.

The position is temporary, but there is a good opportunity for extension depending on the needs of the business.

Your main responsibilities

  • Perform various types of metallographic examinations of steel, both routine and advanced, and document the results in a technical report.
  • Support mechanical testing in their daily operations, preparatory tasks, or quality assurance of the testing flow.
  • Work towards clear requirements for quality, lead time, and delivery precision.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements of work methods, routines, and equipment.
  • Participate in internal and external contexts such as projects and committees.
  • Establish and maintain good documentation such as instructions, reports, and meeting notes.

About you

  • You have a university degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or equivalent.
  • You have good communication skills and enjoy collaborating across different functions.
  • You have an analytical, solution-oriented, and structured work style.
  • You have an interest in practical laboratory work and technical measurement methods.
  • You need to be able to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as it is part of the daily work.
  • It is an advantage if you have experience from laboratory work, metallography, mechanical testing, or sample preparation.
